CITIZEN KANE (1941) Directed by Orson Welles

To find a defining moment in Welles Masterpiece is like finding a freckle in a freckled woman, but for some reason, above the scene where snowball with the little house breaks in the floor as Kane dies, and the static window in Xanadu Castle or the actual discovery of Rosebud being burned as the rest of the real valuable objects are sold, I believe the scene that really begins Kane's story is the one where little Charles is playing outside in the snow while his future is being sealed by his strong mother and his weak father. It keeps coming to my mind as one of the best staged scenes I've scene in my life.
