RACHEL GETTING MARRIED (2008) Jonathan Demme

This Jonathan Demme film has three excellent moments, and all of them involve Anne Hathaway's frantic skills, but the one that stands out for its shocking value (even more than the scene where she blames her mother and they end up hitting each other), is when Rachel criticizes Kym for taking away her moment of happiness at a party, and as Kym is cornered looking for new weapons to fight back, Rachel breaks the tension declaring she is pregnant. Kym has been morally punched low and we understand just how this family mechanics push her to her state of constant crisis. Demme stages the scene in a series of unconnected cat-and-mouse moments, some of them in total darkness so that we can only see the silhouette of the two confronting sisters.
